About Richard Sean Manning

Richard Sean Manning Artist Creates Art to Open Dialogue about Unity Richard Sean Manning was raised in Lockport, NY, the second son of six children, and like many young adults, he left his home state to follow his dreams. He moved to the west coast of Florida and joined the Jabil team, where he felt right at home with their commitment to do the right thing, in the right way. He worked his way up the ladder becoming a corporate executive, and retired at age 40 to pursue his artistic and philanthropic endeavors. He was the co-owner of The Historic Train Station in St. Petersburg, Florida, which was the mecca for some of the worlds most recognized ceramic artists. Sean counts this illustrious group of great masters of ceramics as his mentors and lifelong friends, such as the late Rudy Audio, Don Reitz, Paul Soldner and Peter Voulkos. During those years Sean became a prolific ceramic artist, working with up to five tons of clay each year to produce art that is sought after by private collectors and museums. Creates Art in Memory of all those Affected by 9/11…Past, Present, and Future In early 2010, Sean started to paint, and felt a stirring to create art in memory of all those who had perished on 9/11. He pledged to paint 3000 original paintings on museum quality Arches paper, in memory of all those affected by 9/11...past, present and future. Together with his wife Laura, they established TheManningArts.org as an online art gallery to help charities raise funds for their worthy causes, through reproductions of these originals. Although Sean's inspiration came from 9/11, his art is very uplifting, and to date he has painted over 1800 paintings in this body of work that are dedicated to this cause…another 1200 to go! Donates Ceramic '9/11 Memorial Towers’ to Museums Sean also pledged to hand build pairs of ceramic '9/11 Memorial Towers’ and donate them to museums across the country, to open a dialogue about unity through art. His first permanent ceramic exhibit valued at $65K, was installed at the Great Explorations Children’s Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9/11. The children of the nursery school at Great Ex, learn about unity through an age appropriate 9/11 curriculum, and they see Sean's colorful and whimsical '9/11 Memorial Towers' that spin on a metal base of cut out flames, as they enter the Museum each day. Greatest Honor to Date Sean’s greatest honor to date, has been to create a substantial pair of '9/11 Towers of Unity’ valued at $185K, that were installed as the center piece of a permanent exhibit at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum in NYC. Sean created this substantial pair of Towers to be as transparent as possible, in order for the viewer to see through the art. The cylinders are his artistic representation of spaces where people worked and lived harmoniously, and the cut away pieces are the windows and doors into those shared spaces. His '9/11 Memorial Towers of Unity’ are meant to encourage a peaceful feeling, and to open a dialogue about unity through his art. One of his biggest supporters, Jan Seidler Ramirez, Executive Vice President of Collections & Chief Curator at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, as pictured below, had a vision for Sean’s ‘9/11 Memorial Towers of Unity’ to be positioned at the conclusion of the historic exhibit of ‘Tribute/Response’ art, located in the lower level at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. "The mission of this display is to allow visitors, who are probably weary from reading labels and the quantity of walking they must do in the museum galleries at bedrock, to take in the art-responses economically, without needing much context to grasp their emotional genesis. We think that the two looming Tower forms created by Mr. Manning are instantly recognizable in this regard.” as stated by Jan Seidler Ramirez, Chief Curator, National September 11 Memorial & Museum. Sean has worked diligently to create a work of art that would be mindful of everyone's sensitivities, be instantly recognizable, and would leave visitors with a final uplifting moment at the end of their journey through the very emotional 'Tribute/Response Art' exhibit. We Are All 'One Family' Sean wanted to thank all of the dedicated staff at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum who had helped over the years leading up to the installation of his ceramic ‘9/11 Towers of Unity’… too many to mention, so he painted a large ‘One Family’ canvas flag, and gifted it to them all. They were delighted and it was decided that it would be hung in the main conference room of the Museum offices for all to enjoy. 'One Family' Flag Image Licensed to the National September 11 Memorial & Museum When Joe Daniels was retiring after 13 years of dedicated work as CEO of the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, it was determined that the ideal parting gift would be a smaller version of the 'One Family' flag. Sean created a series of 18 of which one was chosen to present to Joe at his farewell party. The Museum loved the 'One Family' message so much, that they licensed the image to be reproduced onto point of sale merchandise to sell in their retail and online stores. At the moment they have ‘One Family’ t-shirts, puzzles, key chains, magnets, note cards, and 8 oz glass tumblers. To help their worthy cause, please take a look at the online 9/11 Museum Store at: Store.911Memorial.org/collections/collections/Manning-One-Family-Flags There are a number of 'One Family' original works of art available through this online art gallery. The winery has won numerous international awards and accommodates upwards of 3500 visitors on Niagara Wine Trail weekends. Laura & Richard Sean Manning are supporters of the arts and work diligently to make a difference in the world by planting seeds about charitable giving and helping to open a dialogue about unity through art. They spend their time between their homes in St Petersburg, FL and Lockport, NY, where they have substantial art studios, located on the grounds of the family vineyard, Freedom Run Winery, which showcases some of Sean's art.
